DIALOGUE

Two friends met after summer holidays. They study at the Institute of Oriental Languages and change their impressions after two month’s vocations.

-         Hello, Firuz! Nice to meet you. How are you?

-         Fine, thank you. You look very pleased. In my opinion you have had wonderful holidays, haven’t you?

-         Yes, you are right. I spent a fortnight in Samarkand. My aunt lives there with her family and I stayed with her.

-         Oh, that’s great! And what kind of impressions do you have?

-         First of all I’d like to tell you about its people. They are so hospitable and polite, that you feel like a fish in water.

Then I want to tell about its architectural monuments. They are more beautiful and wonderful than in pictures or on TV.

-         That’s why people say: “Seeing is believing”.

-         I was impressed by ancient spirit of glorious buildings. When I was walking along the Registan square, Shakhi-Zinda ensemble,

the Bibi-khanim mosque, the Gur-Emir mausoleum I felt as I was in the Middle ages.

-         Oh, you are so romantic! What about Samarkand’s modern part?

-         It’s very wonderful as well. You can find a lot of modern constructions such as shops, restaurants, theatres and cinemas,

everything that can attract a guest of the city.

-         What about its youth?

-         Young men and girls are very handsome and pretty, joyful and dress as modern colourful clothes, so the national clothes,

especially the newly-married couple of young women.

-         Your story is so attractive that I’ll take my chance to visit Samarkand next holidays.

-         It would be great. Next time I’ll bring my photos.

-         Very well. It was nice to see you today. Have a good day!

-         Thank you. Good bye!

-         Good bye!
